Growing Together: Journey with Kids&Us

I have always wanted to create a bilingual home for my son, but I realized I wasn’t managing it well, so Nasa prefers to speak English rather than Vietnamese. As a result, he also struggles to understand what his teachers are saying in his local preschool. I decided to make Vietnamese our primary language at home, using English only during Storytime or play.

Since then, I’ve been wondering how I can provide an environment where he can learn and practice English. I considered different centers and eventually chose one called Kids&Us—a school originally from Spain that has expanded to various countries, including Vietnam. I love how they create a meaningful learning environment for kids, and it’s the only school designed for children as young as one year old.

After a year with Kids&Us, it’s time for Nasa to “graduate” from Linda’s class—a character designed for two-year-olds—and move up to Sam’s class. There’s still a long journey ahead, but I hope these characters will continue to grow alongside my son.

A few weeks before Graduation Day, the school manager asked me to give a speech. I was honored but also nervous since I hadn’t done any public speaking on this scale for almost 10 years. Despite my worries, I embraced the challenge and saw it as an opportunity to share my genuine thoughts and feelings about the school. Speaking from the heart made it easier for me to express my words on stage.

Below is my speech from Graduation Day, where I explained why Kids&Us is the right place for Nasa. If you’re looking for an English school in Vietnam, Kids&Us is worth considering.

Speech:

“Dear parents, students, and teachers,

My name is Linh, and I’m here today with my son, Nasa. We’re thrilled to be part of this special day and to share our journey with Kids&Us at the Le Van Viet branch in District 9.

When we decided to enroll Nasa in Kids&Us, we considered many factors, but the two most important were nature and nurture. We wanted an environment where his natural tendencies as a child could be nurtured. We know our son—he’s very active, loves music, and enjoys bedtime stories.

That’s exactly what we found at Kids&Us:

The classroom environment and atmosphere are unique. Unlike other places, there are no tables, chairs, pens, or notebooks. Instead, kids spend more time interacting with each other, with the teacher, and with characters like Linda and Bunny. They learn about daily activities and household objects that are relevant to their age—Nasa is three years old.

The songs are catchy and easy to remember, closely reflecting real life. Honestly, it’s always been easier for Nasa to learn new vocabulary through rhythm and music. This is how he learned adjectives like ‘long’ and ‘short,’ ‘quick’ and ‘slow,’ and phrases like ‘long neck’ and ‘big mouth,’ all while using his body language.

It’s also a place where he learns appropriate behavior. He’s learning when to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’ how to knock on doors before entering, and to be patient by counting to three before opening a box. He’s also learning to wait his turn, share with others, and take responsibility for cleaning up toys after playtime.

Last but not least, the teachers are dedicated, patient, and caring. We see this in their facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language. For us, it’s not about whether the teachers or our son have a specific accent, like American or British, or whether the teachers are native speakers. What matters to us is that Nasa is in an environment where he can speak English and express his emotions naturally and freely.

In conclusion, after almost a year with Kids&Us, we still believe this is the right place for Nasa. Seeing his excitement and joy before every session reaffirms our decision.

Thank you.”
