Topic #6: ONE thing you want to change

“QUICK” and “FAST” – these were two of the eight anonymous comments I received from colleagues during our team workshop. It’s not the first time I’ve been complimented this way, and while I appreciate it, I realize this is also something I want to change.

I don’t want to let go of being quick entirely because it often helps me solve tasks efficiently. However, I want to develop a “pre-step” before being so quick. Sometimes, when I can’t control my emotions, my reactions come directly from my first thoughts or personal assumptions. This has led me, on occasion, to misunderstand others’ words or their good intentions.

What I really want is to slow down and take more time to reflect—to determine what truly needs to be quick and what is better handled with thoughtfulness. It reminds me of the book title “The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: How to Be Calm in a Busy World” by Zen Buddhist teacher Haemin Sunim. Although I haven’t read it yet, the title resonates deeply with me. Currently, I’m reading his second book, “Love for Imperfect Things” which has already started to influence my perspective.

I hope this change happens to help me not only in my work but also in fostering better understanding with others.

Thank you for your readings.
